Have you heard of Crystal Universe by @teamlab? It’s this amazing installation of light sculpture that uses LED and endless points of light to create a three-dimensional representation of the universe. I saw it for the first time at the ArtScience Museum in Singapore back in 2015, and it wasn’t only interesting. Instagrammable too!
The way Crystal Universe works is inspired by pointillism, which is a technique that uses small dots of color to create a larger picture. In this case, the dots are replaced with light points, and the result is this incredible interactive artwork that expresses the universe through accumulated light points.
What’s really cool about Crystal Universe is that it’s constantly evolving and changing. The installation is designed to respond to the presence and movements of people in the space, which means that it’s never the same twice. Each moment is unique, and it’s amazing to be part of something that’s always in flux.
The installation itself is massive and made up of thousands of LED lights arranged in a complex lattice pattern. The lights are set against a dark background, which creates a dramatic contrast and enhances the sense of depth and dimensionality.
