Easy Day Trip from Bishkek: A Travel Guide to Chunkurchak, Kyrgyzstan
A Quick Escape to Nature Near Bishkek
If you’re spending a few days in Bishkek and want to get out into nature without going too far, Chunkurchak is a great choice! It’s only an hour away by car, and it gives you that perfect mountain feel without needing a full weekend. The air is super fresh and crisp, the views are wide and peaceful, and the whole place just makes you feel calm.
I joined a shared tour with Kettik KG, a fun Gen Z (ish) travel company that runs group trips around Kyrgyzstan. They’re perfect if you’re solo or just want to meet new people. Everyone was friendly and the vibe was really relaxed. I didn’t have to plan anything—just showed up and everything was sorted.
Why Visit Chunkurchak
Chunkurchak is a protected nature reserve that’s still mostly untouched. When you get there, you’ll see green open meadows, tall pine trees, a river cutting through the valley, and mountains all around. It’s really quiet and feels far away from the city even though it’s so close.
In winter, there’s a small ski area that’s great for beginners. It’s not fancy but it’s affordable and way less crowded than bigger resorts. In summer and spring, it’s perfect for hiking or just relaxing in nature. The weather in spring is especially nice because the flowers start to bloom and everything turns green.
Walking the Skybridge
One of the main attractions in Chunkurchak is the Skybridge. It’s the first and only pedestrian suspension bridge in Kyrgyzstan, and sits about 120 meters above the ground. Walking across it is a bit scary at first but you get amazing views of the forest and mountains. It’s a good stop for photos or just taking in the scenery! You can have nice drone shots taken here for about 500 Kyrgyz soms.
