During the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Fitr, for example, it is customary to give ketupat to family, friends, and neighbors as a way of expressing gratitude and spreading blessings.

In some communities, it is also believed that hanging ketupat on the front porch of a house can bring good luck and ward off evil spirits.
